New this year – FISHING CHALLENGE!

Maryland Seafood Festival Fishing Challenge

For our 50th anniversary, we are establishing an on the water fishing challenge. The “challenge” is that you must be on some type of paddle craft (hand or foot operated) in order to be eligible to fish and be judged.

The fishing starts on Sunday morning at 6am. Boats have to be launched from Sandy Point State Park and fishermen have to check in prior to going out. The fishing challenge ends at 1pm, at which time all eligible catches will be weighed. The heaviest fish wins.

Cost: $40 per angler, includes parking at Sandy Point State Park, general admission to the Maryland Seafood Festival, festival t-shirt, drink ticket.  Buy your ticket here!

SAFETY: All Maryland Department of Natural Resources and United States Coast Guard regulations shall be followed at all times. Anyone found not in compliance shall be disqualified. Each participant shall be required to comply with these regulations:
• Use of a USCG approved PFD (personal flotation device)
• Carry a whistle (or other approved noise maker)
• And any other pertinent regulations not specifically listed herein.

FISHING METHODS: All fish must be caught using rod and reel (hook and line).  All blue crabs must be caught using rod and reel, hand lines or crab traps. No trot lines are allowed. Artificial or natural bait (shrimp, crab, minnows etc) is permitted. You must comply with all Maryland DNR regulations as to number of rods, type of bait, size of bait, number of hooks, etc.

FISHING LICENSE: A valid Maryland fishing license is required. You may have a reciprocal license, i.e. your state fishing license is also valid in Maryland. It is up to the angler to verify the regulations and prove their license is valid on the day of the tournament.

CHECK-IN: (weigh-in) TIME: 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. All anglers must have weighed in or be in line by 2:30. Once the official Tournament clock reads 2:30 pm the tournament is considered closed. If you are in line at that time you will be allowed to check in.

SCORING: The fish will be weighed. Fish must meet Maryland DNR minimums to count. In the event of a tie for any prize the entry checked in earliest will be declared the winner.

PRIZES:

  • Largest Rockfish: 1st place
  • Largest White perch: 1st place
  • Largest Blue Crab: 1st place

RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE: A waiver, release of liability and covenant not to sue are part of the entry form. This form must be signed to participate in the tournament. It is required that all anglers take responsibility for themselves while participating in the tournament.
